LIFE CREATION FORCE....THE SPEED OF A HORSE....

2 Jubilee St is the brown building to the left of The George Tavern

TURANGALILA

A charitable organisation set up by The George Tavern to promote creativity in East London, focused on engaging the young, elderly, and those with mental health issues while providing a solution to the vacant 2 Jubilee Street.

2 Jubilee Street is a council owned building that has been vacant for almost 3 years, attracting vandalism and anti-social behaviour. Next door at The George Tavern, landlady Pauline Forster realised that in fact this empty building could be a priceless opportunity for the local community - a community lacking in communal space, creative facilities and in desperate need of affordable access to skills, equipment and artists studios.

Proposal Basics:

SPACE - Turangalila could provide the community:
2 Large multi-use spaces
16 affordable studios for artists and creative enterprises
Small public cafe
4 specialist studios: Film/Animation, Music, Soft 3D and Hard 3D.

FACILITIES- Turangalila could provide the community:
Music, Film/Animation, Sewing, Drawing, Design, Welding, Woodwork & Screen Printing equipment
Performance/exhibition space
Meeting space
Healthy, affordable food for the local community.

EXPERTISE - Turangalila could provide the community:
Creative professionals at the highest level have already pledged their time and skills to the Turangalila workshop programme including music, art, filmmaking, photography.

UNIQUE - Turangalila could provide the community:
Genuine creative industries led initiative
Professional hire of space and equipment at commercial rates will help fund affordable access for local people in need - focusing on the young, elderly and those with mental health issues.
By creating links between professionals and the community, opportunities for those who need them most will be made through apprenticeships, work experience and first steps into the creative fields.
